Sparkles, Spinning & Sock Yarn

Hubs and I were able to get away for a few days to celebrate his grandfather’s 80th birthday. It was too chilly to go swimming, but I did get to dip my toes in the ocean. I grew up on the Connecticut side of Long Island Sound, and I miss the sea beyond belief. There was no knitting on the beach, but I did knit on the deck, though you can’t see the ocean in any of my pics.

Our last day, we went shopping with some of the family, and since we were only 10 minutes from a yarn store, they indulged me. We visited The Yarn Sellar in York, Maine. Did you know Addi made Swarovski needles? I’d never seen them and I kind of love them, though the price tag was a bit beyond my budget.

I wanted to get some local stuff, so my in-laws kindly paid for a skein of Done Roving Yarns Frolicking Feet. It was a difficult choice, but I narrowed it down to the Garnet & Rubies colorway.

BUT THEN there was fiber dyed by a nun, so I bought myself a present too. You have probably heard of Inglenook Fibers? She is part of a convent that works to stay self-sufficient, which is really cool. There had been a big sale the day before I went to the store, but there was one braid left. Of course I bought it.

It’s 3.9 ounces of 30% brown Manx Loaghtan/30% white Shetland/30% mulberry silk/10% firestar. I wish I could take a better picture, because it’s so purty. And, I mean, a nun. I had to.

It was raining on the way out, but of course I made my husband take my picture with the gigantic knitting. I do wish they had been oars, but it’s not my shop.

I did have a Knit Picks order waiting for me when I got home, which was nice since I missed its delivery on Saturday. I got a size 0 nickel circular needle to do magic loop with, and two skeins of Felici. I had heard that Felici was discontinued-discontinued, instead of the colors just being discontinued, and since I’d never tried it and it seemed silly just to buy a needle, I got two skeins of Jingle. Christmas socks!

Lest you think I cheated on my LYS (which, well, I guess I did), I had also purchased size 1 and size 3 Addis for magic loop. I have a size 2 that’s not perfect, but I figured I’d round out my set of sizes and then figure out which needles I liked. I’ve never used Addis, so I’m excited for that, even though my socks have all been knit on 0s so far. I’m sure I will find a use for them.

And that’s all the money I spent! It’s my birthday on Saturday, so I think I deserve it.

Oooh happy birthday! It’s good you got some of Inglenook fibers now, I heard that she’ll be taking a break from fiber making for a while.

Thank you! After I got it, I Googled it, and I realized you’d also blogged about spinning some! I didn’t realize I was in such good company. 🙂

    Happy Birthday!
I love Addis and prefer to knit with only them. But man those crystals – wow!! Probably not in my budget either!!!
Can’t wait to see the Christmas socks!!

Apparently they’ll be coming out with them in multiple sizes. It’s probably good I didn’t know about them at Christmas!
